The Friday 5

in which I share five details from the past week...

 1. Sarah, my good friend, was in town, so I got to see her! We did some major thrifting and found some great stuff .We also had coffee at this awesome little house-turned-cafe where all the baked goods are made in-house and the owner serves you coffee and cheers loudly for the Broncos. It was so good to catch up with Sarah. I've really been needing a nice long, face-to-face talk with someone who knows me so well.

Sarah & me on her wedding day.

This little thrift-store gem cost a total of $1.99, and as an added bonus it plays "What the World Needs Now" I completely fell in love with it.

 2. I rearranged my photo wall. Adding new pictures and shifting others, I expanded my little gallery. There's something about staying up late with gold frames and thumb tacks, rearranging everything until I can hardly see straight, that I find enjoyable.

 3. I finally went grocery shopping. This might seem simple, and it is...but here's the thing: I tried earlier this week. I really, really did. But I failed. I went into the store. I got a basket. I put several items into said basket. And then I walked out of the store. (of course this meant leaving without any groceries). I just had no idea what I really wanted to buy. I was left uninspired by the produce selection, and I just wanted to take a nap. Luckily, right before I completely ran out of food yesterday, I successfully made a grocery list full of delicious food, drove to the grocery store, and purchased pretty much everything on my list. Victory is mine. And by victory I mean groceries.

 4. I'm just finishing up Mark Helprin's Memoir from Antproof Case. It's not my favorite of Helprin's books (I prefer A Winter's Tale), but the nameless main character is growing on me, despite his hatred for coffee. I think my next read will be The Remains of the Day or Me Talk Pretty One Day or Vanity Fair. I'm willing to put it to a vote. What do you think? I'm kinda leaning towards Vanity Fair because I have a lovely hardcover edition, I've seen the movie, and I love the line, "You must be sure, at least, of this:
That you are a woman who has been truly loved." Also, have you checked this site out?

 5. And finally...This picture. It wasn't taken this week, but it makes me smile. And don't we coordinate well with the lichen covered wall? Plus, I did hang it up on my wall this week. So it counts. It totally counts.

  1. Hi you! This is fun to see your life here - thanks for posting!

(I do like the after wall better than the before) You always had the coolest walls in your bedrooms growing up....

  3. You should read Me Talk Pretty One Day! If not now, then eventually. You can borrow my copy if you want, although it's a bit water-damaged (thanks to a MN basement flooding incident).

    1. I have a copy. $1 at the thrift store :) and i think i would be very upset if my books were damaged. One year a lot of girls in my dorm had things completely ruined due to a sewage backup/flood. Luckily, I hadn't stored anything there that year.

    2. Nice! You should read it. :)
It was especially upsetting because it was shortly before I moved, which was why the books were boxed up in the basement in the first place. That'll teach me not to start my packing early!

  4. I vote Vanity Fair! I just started it, and then we could have a book club of two!
